Dr Annabel Smith

annabel-smith
Dr Annabel Smith is a General Paediatrician and long term Central Coast local, holding a Bachelor of Medicine from the University of Newcastle, a Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (Academic Medallist) from James Cook University in Queensland, and a Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. She has served at a range of tertiary and regional centres, gaining experience in intensive care, neonatology, emergency medicine, and developmental paediatrics, amongst others.

Annie has worked extensively throughout the Central Coast and brings good local knowledge of services and close contacts with other professionals, including allied health and support agencies in the area. She is also employed as a Staff Specialist with the Central Coast Local Health District’s Medical Developmental Team, performing developmental assessments for preschool-age children.

Annie enjoys the diversity of paediatrics, with special interests in unsettled and unwell infants, breastfeeding medicine, sleep issues, allergies and eczema, developmental problems in preschoolers, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and nutrition. She is an accredited Neuroprotective Developmental Care practitioner, able to deliver evidence-based infant feeding, sleep, and settling support to families with babies and toddlers, as developed by Dr Pamela Douglas (author of ’The Discontented Little Baby Book’).

Annie’s warm and friendly manner helps families and children feel comfortable in her care, and she is passionate about providing evidence-based and very practical advice to suit the needs of her patients. Her focus lies in partnering with, and supporting, children and families to help them achieve their unique health and wellbeing goals.

Annie lives on the Central Coast with her husband, a local primary school teacher, and her two young daughters.

Regrettably, Dr Smith is unable to take on new patients over 2 years of age currently, unless they are a sibling of an existing patient of hers.
